Historic Saranac Lake Wins Major Grant
October 30, 2019
Historic Saranac Lake has been awarded a major grant to support the Cure Porch on Wheels project in 2020. The New York Council on the Arts (NYSCA) has approved a grant of $13,000 to support the programming on Historic Saranac Lake’s oral history booth and mobile exhibit space.
This is the latest of a number of grants that have supported the project. In 2018 a NYSCA Museum Program grant supported the final stages of construction and initial Porch programming. In 2017, a National Endowment for the Arts grant funded the design of the mobile exhibit space by designer Melissa Kline and engineer Wiley Lavigne.
The Porch, constructed on a 16 foot trailer, has been used by Historic Saranac Lake to host oral history days, exhibits, and educational programs. With this mobile space, Historic Saranac Lake will continue to bring this programming to a diverse audience of local residents and visitors. The Porch is available for use by local organizations as a mobile venue. It is fully accessible, solar powered, and heated for winter use.
Project Director Kayt Gochenaur said, “We are thrilled to have the support of NYSCA on this project. We look forward to bringing new museum programs to the community, and we are excited to share the porch with other organizations in the North Country in the coming year.”
The Cure Porch on Wheels is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
